Finally got the nozzle off the old propane tank I am going to turn into a propane forge. Filled it up with water, let it sit for a week (mostly because I was lazy and didn’t want to carry it out of the shop to dump it out. The idea here is that after all of the propane gas has vented out (which there was very little as this is an old tank from the 80’s) there may still be a little left in the tank because propane has a higher density than air. It also can get caught up in the tiny pockets of the surface of the tank walls.
Water however is much denser than propane, so by filling the tank with water, it effectively pushes the propane out. Now I can start designing the forge and making the cuts on the tank when I get back from Montana this coming week. Oh yeah, I am going to be out of town for a week!
